Field Trip

We’ve been looking for new fun things to do this summer.  One event I’ve been wanting to see is the Bodies Exhibit.  We missed it when it was here in Washington, so we drove up to Baltimore this week to go and see it there.  Unfortunately, no picture taking was allowed in the exhibit.  It was really interesting.  I got into the science/medical perspective and wanted to know the autopsy results of each one.   It’s actually pretty hard to describe the exhibit.  The bodies were real people and that fact does keep pressing into your thoughts as you look at the way the various body parts have been displayed. Seeing comparisons of the lungs of a person with healthy lungs, a smoker, and a coal miner was very sobering.  It would definitely make me want to quit smoking, if I smoked!  One exhibit had a man who was literally beside himself.  His skeletal system was standing beside his own muscular system.  The muscles had been through a plasticizing process which made them rigid.  In another exhibit everything but the vascular system had been removed.

The only pictures I could take were in the regular parts of the museum.  Ray and his friend Alex had more fun in the rest of the museum.
