I just happened to open my own blog last night and guess what? It wouldn’t open, at least not in Internet Explorer. When I tried again in Firefox, things looked just fine. Since we’ve had a recent virus attack on Don’s computer, I was afraid that a virus has come across the network to attack my system and that Internet Explorer had been compromised, but when I checked the site from another computer, the same thing occurred. But, what could’ve happened? I hadn’t been changing anything on the back side of the site, no new plug-ins or such. Eventually, after much experimentation, I found that the problem stemmed from my side bar widgets. But, which one? Finally, the problem turned out to be caused by a text widget which was calling up a site meter. I’ve deleted that widget and now things seem to be working correctly, but I had to delete each widget one by one. Since the inception of WordPress 2.5, text widgets get forgotten if you remove them from the sidebar, so I had to be sure I knew what had been in each one before deleting it. (That’s one of the really annoying changes that came with 2.5) I hate when things like this just happen though. Why now? Why out of the blue? Do the computer gremlins just want to push me to my troubleshooting limits?
